WELCOME TO MY NEW ROGER TOUHY BLOG!

There have been many misconceptions surrounding Roger Touhy.  He has been portrayed as a gangster,"Terrible", a kidnapper and worse.  As his niece, I knew and loved Roger Touhy and he was none of those things.

What he was...was a bootlegger in Chicago in the late 1920's and early 1930's during Prohibition.  So, yes, he was breaking the law -- a law which was soon repealed because it was finally determined to be ill-considered.

Because the bootleg territory of the northwest suburbs of Chicago controlled by my Uncle Roger was so lucrative Al Capone, naturally, wanted it for his own.  My uncle refused to just hand it over to him, so Al and his minions in the Chicago mob decided to take it.  And, in order to take control of the territory they first needed to get rid of my uncle.  They did so in a very unique way for the Mob -- they framed him for a crime which never happened and made sure he would be convicted by buying the cooperation of the judge, jurors, witnesses and a very influential police captain.

When the trial was over, Roger Touhy was found guilty and sentenced to 99 years!  For the next 25 years, with the help of his faithful and devoted sister (my mother), Roger fought for his vindication and freedom.

Finally, a Federal judge of integrity and courage handed down the Decision that Roger Touhy was completely innocent of committing the crime for which he was imprisoned for a quarter of a century.  He was released from prison in 1959, came home to live with my parents and me and, then, only 28 days later was shot-gunned to death by the Chicago mob on our front porch.

Although his case is one of a great injustice, there is much more to the story that has never been fully told.  To that end, I am currently working on a book which will hopefully put all doubts of his innocence to rest and will reveal previously untold details of why he was murdered and who was involved.
